Sigatoka Site

The Sigatoka trial site is located in the heart of the major papaya production region in the mid Sigatoka Valley. The site belongs to collaborating partner Produce Specialty Ltd. (PSL) who has approximately 25 acres planted to papaya in the same area. At present there are two trials underway including:

  1. Comparison and analysis of production practices - Conventional vs. Organic
  2. Seed block and locally adapted variety selection

The Sigatoka Valley lies in the intermediate climate zone of Fiji. Approximately 80% of Fiji’s fruit and vegetables are produced in the Sigatoka Valley earning it the name “Salad Bowl of Fiji”. At present 90% of Fiji’s papaya production for the export market are produced in the Sigatoka Valley.
